Get Prepped for the Alternative Media Conference

Are you excited about the Alternative Media Conference coming up on May 18th? So are we! Swing by the library and check out the books we’ve put on display to celebrate the conference, all of which are authored by conference speakers or address substantial parts of the first Alternative Media Conference in 1970.

All of these items can be checked out so don’t be shy. Not on campus or can’t get up here? No problem, these items are in the Alternative Media Conference Authors List in the Eliot D. Pratt Library Catalog and you can request them there.

Labor Movement & Unions Resources

The library has a wealth of information on unions and the labor movement in a list in the online catalog, including The Legal Rights of Union Stewards and Grievance Handlers Pocket Guide from the first Goddard Staff Steward Training. If you weren’t able to make it, check these out to see if this work is right for you. You’ll get your own copies later if you become a steward.

Don’t miss the display near the library info desk on the rich labor history of Goddard. It covers labor conferences & CIO steward training in the 1940/50s, the AFT union in the 1970s, the NEA union organized the 1990s, and the UAW unions of the 2000/10s.

The Library of Congress conducted a survey to “spark a national conversation on books and their importance in Americans’ lives, and, indeed, in shaping our nation.” From the results, they compiled a list of 88 Books That Shaped America.
